You're going to put your eye out!

This is Zach, the son of our good friends Crystal and Phill. He stole Gordon's glasses after we finished playing poker (Gordon won, by the way), and we immediately remarked how he looked remarkably like Ralphie from A Christmas Story.

Judge for yourself...but don't put your eye out!

Double the love for double the price

As requested....

I'm a little nerdy. Short and stout.

...those that know me....your reaction on reading this wasn't "Wow, that's high!" It was "Ohh, I bet he was pissed!"

1 Friggin Percent! oh well.

Just 'cause...

I am nerdier than 56% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

While I'm sure Justin, Josh, and probably Scott would score higher than I, it had to be posted...

*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $6 | Rake $0.25
Board [4s 4c Ah As Qh]
Seat 2: DavisP (small blind) showed [Td Th] and lost with two pair, Aces and Tens
Seat 4: RandomSam (big blind) showed [7h 4d] and won ($5.75) with a full house, Fours full of Aces
DavisP said, "7 4 beats 10 10"
DavisP said, "lmao"
RandomSam said, "next time raise before flop"
DavisP said, "doesnt matter on here"
DavisP said, "ppl love to protect their blinds on here"
RandomSam said, "well if I play 7 4 after you raise, then that's on me"
RandomSam said, "if you don't raise and I win with 7 4 that's on you"

Moral of this story is:  If you are afraid that you can’t raise before the flop, don’t be upset when the cards beat you.  I didn’t have to outplay DavisP, not sure if I could have.  However, he allowed me, the BB, to get lucky by not raising.  Bad beat, sure.  But remember, just because you get beat badly, it’s not always just the cards at fault.

Important update

They seem to have upgraded the toilet paper at work to a much softer brand.
Rock on.

That is all.

My wife is itchy. She blames it on the baby. And I'm an ass.

Merry Christmas!

Happy Hannukah!

Happy Kwanzaa!

Happy Birthday!

(Does anyone remember that Virgin Mobile commercial with "Christmahannukwanzaakah?" No? Oh well. Happy that, too!)

I think the world may end sometime around 11:59 PM on December 25. Just a thought or something. If it does, told ya so.

So, can I tap your phone?

What if I tell you I'm the president?

Did I mention that Christmas is coming?

w00t!

Can I leave work yet?

No?

How about now?

My dad is coming up for Christmas.

He'll be here today.

I'm taking bets on how many hours it takes before he gives my grandmother-in-law a word search book.

I played StarCraft with my co-worker Heath and his brother on Sunday.

Now I want to get a bigger game together soon...Justin? Josh? Gordon? I'm talking to you guys...

Anyway, back to the grind...

Word to your Mother! and other sad white boy sayings...

This Past week on SNL there was a music video by Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg. It was Called "Chronic"les of Narnia. What I found scary is I saw some simularities between my group of friends and this video. Well Enjoy

Wil's Tournament Moving

Wil Wheaton's weekly PokerStars tournament is moving! Wil posted this today on WWdN: In Exile -

"The WWdN Friday game at PokerStars is moving to Tuesday, beginning December 20th. The game will play each week, except in the event of major holidays, starting at 7:00 PM EST. The buy-in will remain at $10+1."

I'm not sure how much I'll get to play, but I'm going to try to make each one. Clearly, this is in response to my recent final table showings...but I can't prove it...

Actually, this has a fairly geek reason. Check out the post to understand. See you all on the virtual felt...

More Bloggy-type Things...

I know, I know...what now?

I started a sports blog over at FoxSports.com. It should be fun, and could even get me a writing gig if I'm any good. I haven't got much on there yet, but if you like sports (or just want to hear anything from my perspective), give it a read.

Finally, after much prodding from Justin (OK, not too much), I have started a del.icio.us. It's pretty much like my Clip Blog, but you can search for other articles that share a similar tag. Check it out here if you dig the clip thing.

It's all that and a bag of po-ta-to chips, ain't it?

Don't call it a comeback...

OK, I know I'm behind on the Heads-Up Challenge post and blogging in general. Unfortunately, something happened that I couldn't foresee...

I got sick.

RandomSam was taken out of action by some viral nonsense. Gretchen was sick while I was playing poker on Sunday (I didn't cash, but that's another story - one I will tell soon) and not feeling well enough for work Monday. I was feeling not-so-good myself, but I trudged into work nonetheless. Two hours later, I'm calling G for a ride home. I proceed to head to bed for 90% of Monday.

This morning my stomach fun had left, but my head was still spinning. There was no way I was sitting at a computer for 8-9 hours, so I called off and opted for bed. After another four hours of sleep, I was feeling better. I convalesced the rest of the afternoon, but was feeling up to par at about 10, so I went downstairs to check mail and the like. So, upon checking the blogosphere, I find this on Wil's site.

Poker tourney at 10:30? I'm in. I've got energy to burn.

For the results, I'll turn to my email from PokerStars:

PokerStars Tournament #16147912, No Limit Hold'em
Buy-In: $10.00/$1.00
20 players
Total Prize Pool: $200.00
Tournament started - 2005/12/06 - 22:30:00 (ET)

Dear RandomSam,

You finished the tournament in 1st place.
A $100.00 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

Congratulations!
Thank you for participating.

Tournament notes: I was down to under $600 in chips when I was dealt the HAMMER. I push all-in and doubled up. Apparently it was meant to be. I got extremely lucky later on as well, when Wil went all-in with pocket 5's (Presto!), I reraised with AJ and was called by speedemonz all-in with AQ. I catch a Jack on the flop and neither of the other hands improved. Other than that, I played tight and protected my hands when I had to and trusted my reads. Best poker I've played, although I got quite lucky as well.

Great "get well" gift!

Thank you to Wil for setting this up! It was great fun and I hope to do it again sometime.

Off to bed for me. I must work tomorrow.

Sunday Sunday Sunday...

Sorry I haven't posted an update regarding Thursday's Heads-Up Challenge. It's coming, but I need to have more than a few minutes to finish it.

"Why doesn't he do it now?" you ask. Well, the live tourney Josh and I were going to today has been productive. I've qualified for the finals tonight, and will be playing for over $10,000. An update when I return home. Josh finished either 27th or 28th, and only the top 20 moved on.

Go Go Random Humans!

Or something...

Heads-Up Challenge and Other Poker News...

Josh won the Heads-Up Challenge last night! He defeated newcomer (to our game) Tre last night to take home the $100 first prize. Tre took home $30 for second place. I'll have a full report tomorrow, including how I went out in the first round...

Wil's tournament is tonight on PokerStars. I'll be playing as RandomSam. Hope to see you there!

Josh is freerolling me into a tournament here in Columbus this weekend. We'll see if I play better than last time...

Update on my performance in Wil's tourney later tonight.

And 30 minutes later, I'm out...

Don't have much to add. I got shortstacked when I overplayed A10 against JJ. Didn't play well, although I was distracted somewhat. Oh, well...to the sit n gos I go!
